Derrick Begay, Professional Team Roper, has competed professionally since 2013. Begay put in a lot of hard work to be one of the top Team Roping Headers in the world he said, “I started from the bottom, one accomplishment lead to another. I competed in junior rodeos, amateur rodeos and then professional rodeos.”

Orginally from Seba Dalkai, Arizona, Begay now calls Winslow, Arizona home. He enjoys hunting and being a cowboy and living off the land.

Q: What excites you most about the sport?
A: Just being from a western background, the competition, the fans and getting to see different parts of the country and meeting new people.
Q: Tell us about your rookie year and any advice you have for those just starting out?
A: It was a learning experience, you have to figure out how to win.
Q: What is your favorite sports team?
A: I don’t keep up with sports. I always seem to go for the underdogs when it comes to championship games.
Q: Favorite thing to do when your not rodeoing.
A: Just being a cowboy and living off the land!
