Marty Yates, Professional Tie-Down Roper, has competed professionally since 2013. He might be one of the youngest athletes in the game, but he is on fire and the one to look out for. We asked Yates what he does to prepare for each run he said, “I have a game plan: I get a good start, ride my horse and set myself up for a good run.”
Yates was born and raised in Stephenville, Texas. He enjoys playing basketball and taking care of his cattle in his spare time.

Q: Tell us about your rookie year and any advice you have for those just starting out?

A: My rookie year was a struggle. I thought I knew way more than I did. My advice is to have an open mind and have fun!

Q: Do you have a rodeo routine you stick to when preparing to compete? Any silly superstition?

A: I usually don’t eat before I rope. I don’t wear yellow shirts. I don’t put my hat on the bed. I never carry $50.00 bills.

Q: What does your family mean to your success?

A: They mean everything to my success. If it was not for them, I would not be where I am today.

Q: Who was your mentor or role model at the start of your career?

A: Trent Walls.
